New Oil Discoveries in Mexico – Leverage the Maximus Dataset
28 March 2023On 17 March 2023, Eni and their partners Capricorn Energy and Citla Energy announced the discovery of oil and natural gas in the Yatzil-1 well. The discovery is estimated to hold up to 200 MMboe.
This is the latest and largest of a series of oil and gas discoveries in the Salinas Sureste Basin in recent years. With several prospects and discoveries nearby, a hub development strategy is likely to be the best solution.
The Yatzil-1 well targeted sands in the Upper Miocene and proved 40m+ of net pay. Based on extensive subsurface data collection, Eni reports that the Upper Miocene sand sequences have excellent petrophysical properties. The well was drilled by “Valaris DPS-5” in a water depth of around 284m and TD was 2441m.
