MCG commences Bjørnøya Basin West MC2D July 8
05 July 2011The multiclient 2D survey is a westward continuation of the highly successful 2009 and 2010 MC2D programs acquired around the Skrugard discovery.
This year's acquisition will focus on the rather un-explored Tertiary province of the Western Barents Sea. Only two wells have been drilled in this vast area, both proving Eocene sandstones of good reservoir quality. This province differs from the other provinces in the Norwegian Barents Sea as the Late Tertiary uplift is very minor in most of the survey area and the younger geological sequences of Tertiary has been undisturbed and new plays are awaiting to be discovered.
The MC2D-MCG1101 will be processed by PSS-Geo in Oslo who processed the 2009/2010 surveys and hence has built up an in-depth knowledge of the area.
Acquisition is expected to be completed by September with the final processed data available in February 2012 in due time for the announcement of the 22nd Round in Norway.
The survey is well supported by the industry.
