Offshore Equatorial Guinea Draws Growing Operator Interest
27 October 2026Acreage has been taken up rapidly with several operators securing positions in or near the central offshore, and many of the remaining blocks can be awarded through direct negotiation.
Production is well established around the fringes of the margin, which makes the central offshore a natural next step for exploration. It remains largely undrilled, however, and its deeper, more outboard setting carries higher risk, so imaging quality is a key consideration.
Geoex MCG’s Rio Muni 3D and Regional 2D reprocessing projects are built for that evaluation, combining prospect-scale imaging with regional geological context. Working with the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, Mines and Electricity, Perceptum and DUG Technology, the reprocessing projects are applying advanced Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) workflows to build more accurate velocity models.
Geoex MCG’s Mike Powney recently participated in a panel discussion at African Energy Week alongside H.E. Domingo Mba Esono, Deputy Minister in Charge of Local Content at the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, Mines and Electricity, and Roberto Blanco of Perceptum, addressing the role of high-quality data in reducing exploration risk in the central margin.
