El Salvador MC2D: Exclusive Prefunding Invitation – A New Frontier in Central American Energy Exploration
04 February 2026Geoex MCG, in strategic collaboration with CEL (Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa), is advancing a major new offshore 2D seismic program covering more than 5,000 km across El Salvador’s underexplored Pacific margin.
This multiclient survey – the first of its kind at this scale for the country – offers energy players access to a frontier area now backed by modernized hydrocarbon legislation and a renewed national focus on offshore energy development.
The project is currently open for prefunding, please contact us to inquire.
Why El Salvador, Why Now?
El Salvador is entering a new phase in its energy strategy. This initiative aligns with El Salvador’s updated energy policy and recent reforms to its hydrocarbon legislation. The seismic campaign will be conducted under a multiclient model, enabling open access to data and fostering a competitive landscape for global exploration and production stakeholders.
Key Survey Details
- Survey Type: Marine 2D seismic multiclient
- Coverage: 5,000+ km of new long-offset seismic, leveraging complementary insights from neighbouring surveys to enrich El Salvador’s subsurface understanding and strengthen its position within a broader regional exploration framework
- Status: Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) underway (as of Feb 2026)
- Acquisition: Survey start expected in Q3 2026
- Data Availability: Full PSTM products expected 4 months following survey start
- Final Products: PSTM, PSDM, FWI
The Geological View
The survey is designed to generate the first modern, basin scale view of El Salvador’s offshore structural trends, reservoir plays, and petroleum systems. Early modelling suggests meaningful ties with regional tectono stratigraphic features extending across the broader Central American margin – insights that will be uniquely captured in this program.
Strategic Value for Early Participants
Companies participating at the prefunding stage will gain:
- First-access insight into a frontier basin: Early data offers leverage in technical evaluations and strategic block positioning once the government formally opens acreage.
- Enhanced deliverables and preferential terms: Early partners typically receive expanded products, additional processing options, and the most favourable commercial positioning.
- A competitive advantage in a region transitioning to open offshore exploration: The upcoming legislative framework will create new opportunities—and early participation ensures your team is prepared the moment licensing rounds are announced.
- Strengthened regional understanding: The project design incorporates ties to adjacent offshore territories, enabling integrated interpretation across the regional geological setting.
Our Partnership with CEL
This project is enabled through a landmark agreement between Geoex MCG and CEL, El Salvador’s national energy authority. Together, we are committed to:
- Delivering a modern, country scale seismic foundation
- Supporting transparent and competitive offshore exploration
- Enabling new energy development pathways for the nation
This collaboration ensures strong alignment with national priorities while maintaining the independence and accessibility of a true multiclient program.
Your Invitation to Participate
We are now inviting energy companies to join the prefunding stage. Technical packages, preliminary survey design, and commercial terms are available upon request.
